Hoffman set to make NASCAR Truck Series debut!

WAVE ENERGY DRINK DRIVER NICK HOFFMAN TO MAKE NASCAR DEBUT
18-Year Old to Make First Camping World Truck Series Start

CORNELIUS, NC (July 21, 2010) – Wave Energy Drink driver, Nick Hoffman, is set to make the debut of his life in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, as he enters this weekend’s AAA Auto Insurance 200 at O’Reilly Raceway Park. The 18-year old protégé of NASCAR superstar, Carl Edwards, has had this race in mind since he began racing quarter midgets a decade ago in his hometown of St. Louis, MO.

On a normal weekend, Hoffman can be found behind the wheel of his No. 2 Wave Energy Drink Dirt Modified while racing in the American Modified Racing Association (AMRA) ranks. In preparation for this debut, Hoffman made the switch to asphalt tracks, having competed in several Whelen NASCAR Late Model Series events at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, NC earlier this summer. He showed promise right out of the gate, garnering a fifth place finish in his first outing.

Hoffman will be making his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut behind the wheel of a familiar team. He’ll pilot the No. 63 Mittler Brothers Ford—the same team which gave a young Carl Edwards his start several years ago. His association with the team comes down to a nifty family connection. Nick Hoffman’s father, Darrell, turned wrenches on the truck back when Carl was behind the wheel.

“I’m very excited and I almost can’t believe this opportunity that I have,” said Hoffman. “I’ve worked very hard to get here, but there are so many talented drivers that won’t ever get the chance that I have here this weekend—so I’ve got to be humble about it. I’m here to learn, drive smoothly and above all—finish this race. I really can’t thank Carl [Edwards] and Mike [Mittler] enough for allowing me to chase my dream of driving in NASCAR. I’m pumped up and I’m going to give it all I’ve got,” he added.

The AAA Auto Insurance 200 gets underway at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, IN this Friday in a one-day show for practice, qualifying and the race. Live television coverage is available on the SPEED Channel beginning at 7:30 p.m. EDT with the green flag and 200 laps of racing set for just after 8:00 p.m.

(Gastonia, NC) March 23, 2010 – Wave Energy Drink driver Nick Hoffman won the 10th Annual Skyler Trull Memorial Event at the ½ mile Carolina Speedway Friday night to make him one-for-one in trips to Victory Lane in 2010. The event kicked off the season at Carolina Speedway.
Hoffman bested the 20-car field and took the victory in the 25-lap feature event, holding off a hard-charging Ryan Ayers during a green/white/checkered finish. The 17-year old Hoffman started third in the feature by virtue of his second place finish in the earlier heat race.

He ran a smart race in his No. 2 Wave Energy Drink Modified car, pacing himself throughout the race when then-race leader, Kyle Strickler lost an engine ahead of the field. Hoffman inherited the lead, but then had to deal with a determined Ayers over the final laps.

Coming out of turn four with the checkered flag waving in the air, both Ayers and Hoffman got together and locked fenders as they straightened out on the frontstretch. Hoffman threw his left hand out the window in a victory salute as he crossed the line first. After a quick trip to the tech area, Hoffman returned to the front stretch to do his famous “back flip” for the crowd.

“This is a great way to start off the season,” said an elated Hoffman. “It was so much fun out there tonight that I almost wished we had another 20 laps. It’s always great when your car is hooking up as well as ours did tonight. We caught a break or two and made it pay off. I’d like to thank Wave Energy Drink, PME Engines and Carl Edwards Motorsports for all the support they give me,” he added.

NHM rolls into Carolina $1,000 to win

Nick Hoffman Motorsports looking to start season with a bang

Mooresville, NC. – 3-17-10

The 2010 season is on the break of kicking off for most short track racers in America, but for Nick Hoffman Motorsports this weekend brings step 2 for their season. This weekend March 19-20th, the team heads to Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, NC. for the 10th annual Skyler Trull Memorial race. Although this is not the first time that the #2 Wave Energy Drink/PME Chevy has hit the track in 2010, you wouldn’t know by the teams attitude focused on their “Official” start to the year. “This is a big race for us to officially start off with a bang and gain some momentum for our title runs” Said the young driver, Nick Hoffman. “Its just added pressure that its a special event, and its important for us to come out with an exceptional finish right off the bat”. With the main focus being on the AMRA Modified Series, the team originally did not have plans to run for the Carolina track championship. However, the AMRA schedule shows that NHM has a legit chance at only missing a few races on the 2010 schedule at Carolina, this making the opportunity for a track championship still in play. The team has participated in two different pre-season tests as well as the Volusia Speedweeks campaign which all should contribute to a successful kickoff at Carolina this weekend. The team is also excited to have their backup car on the racetrack with the 2009 East Lincoln Speedway Track Champion, Danny Bohn. Bohn will pilot the NHM backup car for this weekends event. “I think me (Danny) and Nick should be able to share some good information both friday and saturday which could help us a lot on the racetrack” Said Bohn. If you would like more information regarding this weekends event go to: www.carolinaspeedway.net and stay tuned for updates via trackside by following the NHM facebook or Twitter pages.

Young Race-Car Driver Hoffman Shows Confidence, Not Arrogance

26406_332201714189_85834054189_3375995_764483_n-1

Being a professional race car driver has its own set of unique requirements, much like any job. One of those requirements is the occasional promotional stop as part of a sponsorship program.
Typically a driver will stop at a given location along with a show car, take a few pictures, sign a few autographs, maybe conduct an interview or two and be on his way.
It was at one of these promotional stops last Saturday that we had the pleasure of meeting a young modified driver named Nick Hoffman.
It was just happenstance that this reporter stumbled across Hoffman’s promotional visit at Webster Radiator & A/C in Concord, NC. On our way home from running a few errands, we noticed a dirt modified sitting in the parking lot at Webster’s. After collecting a camera we returned to Webster’s to get the scoop on why a dirt-modified was sitting in its parking lot.
Upon arriving at Webster’s, Hoffman, a scrappy youngster with a confidence rivaling any young race-car driver, quickly introduced himself to us.
As it turns out, Hoffman has spent practically his entire life around racing. His father: Darrell Hoffman, raced modifieds for 20 years in the Midwest before trading in his driving gloves for wrenches at Pro Motor Engines, where he has won the MAHLE Engine Builder Showdown for the last three years.
The younger Hoffman, who was stopping at Webster’s for a sponsor-related visit, got his start racing quarter midgets at age 4. He steadily moved up the racing ranks, graduating to bandoleros and Legends cars while learning his way around a race car:
In 2008 he began his dirt modified career, making 20 starts around the country while collecting four victories. In 2009, he did a bit better, earning eight victories in 22 starts, including wins at Ray Evernham’s East Lincoln Speedway in Stanley, N.C., Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C. and Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga.
It was nice to meet a young driver who was just happy to talk to someone interested in racing. We talked for five to 10 minutes about a number of racing-related topics, including his family’s relationship with NASCAR star Carl Edwards.
Hoffman said his family has known Edwards for years, long before he became the NASCAR star that he is today. In fact, Hoffman said that when Edwards moved to North Carolina he lived with the Hoffman family for a time before landing on his feet (In more ways than one) at Roush Fenway Racing.
These days Edwards is helping support Hoffman’s racing ambitions, including sponsoring his No.2 modified. Hoffman also receives backing from Wave Energy Drink, a company that has been making inroads in NASCAR with Tommy Baldwin Racing.
Hoffman has also picked up one of Edward’s unique traits, the popular celebratory backflip.
Hoffman performed that backflip for those in attendance Saturday, landing a backflip that would have drawn a perfect 10 from Edward’s himself.
This year Hoffman will follow the American Modified Racing Ass’n around the Mid-Atlantic states while running at other select events as his schedule permits.
Hoffman also noted that he may have an opportunity to make his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut later this year at Indiana’s O’Reilly Raceway Park.
It was at this point someone tapped the young racer on the shoulder and told him it was time to go. The day was still young and Hoffman had to load up the car and head to Carolina Speedway for a test session to prepare for a race next weekend.
We quickly shook his hand and wished him luck as he scurried to his car: He had places to go and things to do.
A race car driver’s work is never done.
